California Department of Education’s Mathematics Curriculum Adoption List features IM Certified® curriculum distribution partners Imagine Learning, Kendall Hunt, and Kiddom
California educators have long leveraged Illustrative Mathematics’ problem-based approach to improve outcomes for their students—and now, they have even more support to continue that work. Last week, IM Certified® math curricula from Imagine Learning, Kendall Hunt, and Kiddom were officially approved by the California State Board of Education for statewide adoption, joining the state’s list of High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) aligned with the 2023 Mathematics Framework.
The 2025 Curriculum Adoption List marks California’s first math curriculum adoption cycle since 2014. The choices districts make this year will influence math instruction statewide for the next decade.
“The CDE recognized what educators across the country see every day: IM® Math helps students understand math deeply and fluently,” said Dr. Kristin Umland, CEO and cofounder of Illustrative Mathematics. “Now even more educators will have the opportunity to experience the collaborative, engaging learning that defines an IM classroom.”
More than three million students nationwide are already learning with IM Math, including hundreds of thousands in California. In 2024, the Los Angeles Unified School District reported a mathematics improvement rate 2.5 times higher than the state average, highlighting the program’s impact in real classrooms.
The following IM curricula certified by Illustrative Mathematics were adopted by the State Board of Education on November 6, 2025:
