Illustrative Mathematics® Certifies PowerMyLearning’s MathVoice™ as an IM Certified® Supplemental Product

New IM Certified product aligns PowerMyLearning’s MathVoice formative assessment solution to IM® Math v.360 for K–5 classrooms

Too often, teachers and students are asked to navigate a patchwork of tools that weren’t designed to work together. A core curriculum may use one approach, a supplemental program another, and assessments may measure learning in yet another way. Illustrative Mathematics (IM), a nonprofit organization, and PowerMyLearning, also a nonprofit, are working together to create a more coherent experience for K–5 teachers and students using IM Math v.360. PowerMyLearning’s MathVoice is now an IM Certified supplemental product for K–5 mathematics.

The IM Certified ecosystem is designed to help schools avoid fragmentation across curriculum, supplemental tools, and assessments by bringing products and services together around a shared instructional vision. IM Certified products and services are reviewed by Illustrative Mathematics for alignment to IM Math, helping schools and districts select materials and supports that work together to preserve a coherent instructional experience for teachers and students.

PowerMyLearning is working with IM to customize MathVoice, its evidence-based math solution for K–5, which will help educators using IM Math gauge student understanding and identify any additional support students may need. As part of the IM certification process, IM’s product development team provided scope and sequence guidance and feedback on pilot game concepts to support MathVoice’s alignment to IM Math v.360. The customized solution will feature formative assessments and play-based activities designed to complement and reinforce the concepts, discourse, and mathematical practices students experience during core instruction.

“When students need additional support, disconnected instructional tools often create another barrier to learning,” said Dylan Dechant, Senior Vice President of Product Engineering and Innovation at Illustrative Mathematics. “That’s why alignment has to go deeper than simply covering the same standards. We’re proud to be adding MathVoice to the IM Certified ecosystem so schools have more options to support students while maintaining a coherent teaching and learning experience.”

MathVoice has demonstrated impact on both math achievement and teacher practice. Students engage in collaborative, play-based standards-aligned activities and record themselves explaining their mathematical reasoning. The platform captures those explanations, assesses student understanding of standards, skills, and concepts, and provides teachers with time-saving insights and targeted recommendations for small-group instruction and intervention. Those recommendations will connect directly to relevant IM Math centers and other curricular materials, helping teachers provide additional opportunities that build on the concepts, representations, language, and reasoning students are already encountering in IM Math.

“MathVoice gives teachers a powerful window into where their students are,” said Dr. Arun Ramanathan, CEO of PowerMyLearning. “For elementary students, especially multilingual learners, what they can explain out loud often reveals more about their understanding than a written response. MathVoice captures student explanations and turns them into time-saving insights, helping teachers quickly identify misconceptions and patterns across their classroom and see where understanding may have gone off track. Teachers remain in full control of what comes next and how to best meet their students’ needs.”

For more than 25 years, PowerMyLearning has partnered with schools and districts to expand access to high-quality learning experiences, with a particular focus on elementary mathematics and students from historically underserved communities. The organization’s work is grounded in the belief that understanding how students think about mathematics can help educators make more informed instructional decisions.

The certification of MathVoice reflects IM’s broader commitment to helping schools and districts build coherent mathematics programs. From curriculum and professional learning to implementation support, supplemental tools, and assessments, the IM Certified ecosystem gives districts flexibility to select products and services that meet their needs without sacrificing alignment to a shared instructional vision.

About PowerMyLearning’s MathVoice

MathVoice is PowerMyLearning’s evidence-based early math practice tool, which moves learning beyond right-or-wrong answers. Students complete play-based math activities and then record short explanations of what they learned, making their thinking visible in ways that traditional methods often miss. Teachers gain clear, actionable insight into student understanding, emerging misconceptions, and next steps for instruction without adding to their workload. These insights support more targeted teaching, meaningful feedback, and productive math discourse. Aligned to high-quality curricula and state standards, MathVoice helps schools and districts strengthen early math instruction, elevate student voice, and support measurable improvements in teaching and learning.
